  • Robbins Entertainment has two adds this week that are great… Mia J with Headlights, and Italo Brothers with So Small, the latter a remake of the country hit from American Idol’er Carrie Underwood.
  • I really like some of the alt rock remixes that come out from time-to-time, and Carolina Liar’s Show Me What I’m Looking For works remarkably well with a dance treatment.

  • Kelly Clarkson, who can just do no wrong in my book, has a great set of dance remixes for Already Gone. Great song, great vocals, and the usual polished dance production.
  • Velvet returns with Come Into the Night; really digging this one, and a great follow-up to her string of previous hits.
  • Toronto electro-poppers Dragonette bring us a slick new dance track in Pick Up the Phone. It just works on so many levels.

  • Nervous Records offer-up Carefree’s Broken Strings, another strong track that’s getting a lot of attention. Add me to the list.  ;-)
  • Madonna’s Celebration is an add this week, and unsurprisingly has been getting plenty of attention as well.
  • Rockers “Cobra Starship” are pulling the usual audience-grab of offering dance remixes of their single, Good Girls Go Bad—and it’s to good effect.

Chart update 8/14/09

UPDATED 8/26/09:  I just today noticed that when I posted last week’s chart, I didn’t update the chart itself! Ugh! This corrected entry shows the accurate Top 10 for the 8/14 chart.

I just posted my Top 25 Dance Chart for the week on my web site. You can read the whole chart by clicking that link, but here’s the Top 10 this week:

TW LW Artist Title Label
1 NE Bananarama Love Comes Fascination
2 3 Jessica Jarrell Armageddon Mercury
3 4 Gia Bella Back it Up Xtreme NYC
4 2 Divine Brown Sunglasses Warner
5 NE Pepper MaShay Freeway of Love CAPP
6 1 Ameerah The Sound of Missing You Robbins
7 13 Nick Lachey Patience Jive
8 10 Rico Bernasconi Love Deep Inside CAPP/Starshit
9 5 Just Jack with Phil Garant feat. Matina Parisi Smoke Moda
10 11 Cascada Evacuate the Dance Floor Awesome

Added this week are six hot new tracks:

  • Pepper MaShay’s latest, Freeway of Love, has been circulating for a few months now, but it’s official release has arrived. It’s a fantastic cover of the Aretha Franklin hit, with a great set of remixes.
  • Bananarama are back with Love Comes. I continue to be amazed that this girl group is still around and sounding (and looking) amazing. Down one of the original members, perhaps, but the two remaining are doing the Bananarama name proud.
  • Novaspace’s Dancing Into Danger has been one I’ve played for a few months, but I recently got my hands on more mainstream mixes, and am pleased to be spinning this one more often.
  • Nic Chagall feat. Johnathan Mendelsohn, with This Moment. This track is pretty unconventional as dance goes, but it’s a great track with a nice rock vibe and an amazing vocal performance from Mendelsohn.
  • Nelly Furtado’s first all-Spanish language album has arrived, and the first single, Manos Al Aire, has been remixed to incredible effect. It’s a beautiful song, whether you understand Spanish or not, but if you do, it’s even more so.
  • Naturi Naughton brings us Fame ‘09, from the forthcoming remake of the movie Fame. Surprisingly, I like this track.

Chart update 7/24/09

I just posted my Top 25 Dance Chart for the week on my web site. You can read the whole chart by clicking that link, but here’s the Top 10 this week:

TW LW Artist Title Label
1 2 Ameerah The Sound of Missing You Robbins
2 1 Gia Bella Back it Up Xtreme NYC
3 7 Divine Brown Sunglasses Warner
4 3 Jessica Jarrell Armageddon Mercury
5 12 Just Jack with Phil Garant feat. Matina Parisi Smoke Moda
6 6 Vincent Medugno We Are Meant to Be Casa
7 5 Lauren Hildebrandt Boyshorts Red Wallet
8 4 David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland When Love Takes Over EMI France
9 14 Tod Miner Totally Numb Music Plant
10 18 Ann Lee 2 People Off Limits (Italy)

Added this week are three great new tracks:

  1. Jordin Sparks’ latest single, Battlefield. This American Idol alum does it again, with a well-written song and a set of terrific remixes for the dance music audience.
  2. Sneaky Sound System with It’s Not My Problem. This Australian band has infected Europe (in a good way) and now has its sights set on North America. This is a solid track with great production and a good sound.
  3. Carol Hahn’s latest single, Take Me and Dance, is coming next month. And while this add might be self-serving since my remix is one of the ones in the package, I think you’ll agree that it’s a great song (written by Carol herself) with an infectious lyric and groove. (There are also mixes from Lenny B., Eros and VisionX.)

Once again, check out the web site for the full chart.

Chart update 7/13/09

My most recent Top 25 Dance Chart was posted yesterday. Following are some highlights:

  • The incredible track from Ameerah, The Sound of Missing You takes-up the #1 spot. I’ve blogged about the track before, and it really is a great example of a solid blend of songwriting, vocal and production.
  • High school girls take-up two high positions, Gia Bella at #2 with Back it Up, and Jessica Jarrell at #5 with Armageddon. I wish I understood how and why 17 year olds end-up being dance vocalists, but with these two tracks, who really cares? They’re both great tracks with all the right parts in all the right places.
  • A new entry this week is a fabulous track at #20 from Canada’s Divine Brown, Sunglasses. We’ve been playing this one on iDanceRadio.fm for weeks, but for some reason didn’t get the track into my pool of DJ music. The production has some cool and unusual elements that are infectious, and Brown’s vocals are hot.
  • One of my adds for the week is a new track from Ann Lee, whose 2006 tracks 2 Times was a global hit. This time around, it’s 2 People, and it’s a laid back, pleasant track with a nice groove. I play the great remix from Italy’s Favretto, whose work I’ve long admired.

Listen for these tracks and more each Friday night during the DJ Wesley Friday Night House party on iDanceRadio.fm, and of course, at other gigs as they happen.

Chart update 6/19/09

This morning, I posted the latest update to my Top 25 dance chart, covering the period through last Friday. No real shockers or big movers; the top three just jockeyed a bit. Here are a few miscellaneous comments:

  • Katy Perry rose with the infectious Waking Up in Vegas. Probably her best single to-date, this one’s a crowd-pleaser, and I just dig her cool vocals and the funky songwriting.
  • Oceana’s Body Rock moved-up to #4, and I continue to really like this track (and so do the people I play for). It’s just one of those nice, gritty tracks that pushes you up off your butt and onto the dance floor… You can’t help it.
  • Livvi Franc’s Now I’m That Bitch, at #20, is one I’m really liking too, probably just because it’s a song with attitude. I still can’t believe that there’s a version some people are playing that’s been sanitized to Now I’m That Chick. Please! The word “bitch” is that offensive? That damaging to “the children?” Whatever…

Have a great week.
