Can’t keep it a secret

Clear back in late summer last year (2007), I received a Jacinta’s then-new single though a DJ promo. Titled Can’t Keep it a Secret, I was particularly excited about it, because I’d been such a huge fan of Destination, her 2006 single. I wasn’t disappointed; the song itself is upbeat, well written, and well performed. The mix on the promo, I believe a Josh Harris mix, was nicely put together and very energetic as well.

In October, during the Billboard Magazine Dance Music Summit, I had the chance to meet Jacinta at one of the after-hours venues, and found her to be delightful. She handed me a copy of the Secret EP, introducing me in the process to a number of other well-done remixes that I’ve been pleased to incorporate into my sets from time to time.

The real motivation for this post, however, is to note that the track still sounds fresh and fun, even nearly half a year down the road. It’s a rare song period, and a very rare dance song specifically, that has staying power that long.

I must not be the only one, either. The most recent Soundworks Record Pool chart I saw shows the track at #5, after 22 weeks on their chart—the second longest on-chart number on their chart, so the song obviously still has some real momentum going for it.

I hope that this is translating into sales for Jacinta and her indie label, Chunky Music. They done an artful job of creating the music, getting it out there, and creating a buzz, and frankly, I love to see good, talented, positive people (Jacinta) succeed.

I can hardly wait to see what Jacinta has in-store for 2008.
